It is for every individual (regardless of age, sex, and nationality), in every household on every island and cay throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.
The Census will begin with a swearing in ceremony on September 6, 2021 which will be recognized as “Census Day.” On September 7, 2021 enumerators will take to the field on every island and cay throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, to begin the collection process over a period of 3 months.

It is very important because the information obtained from the census assists in the formulation of policies, the conduct of research and the making of sound business decisions.
The Bahamas Census goes digital! For the first time ever in census history, the BNSI will introduce online options for the completion of a digital census questionnaire. The Census 2021 will feature new:
- Digital data collection methods - Questionnaires may be completed using either the CAWI - Computer Assisted Web Interview or the CATI - Computer Assisted Telephone methods. Personal interviews will be conducted on an as needed basis.
- Automated distribution of reports - Through a dedicated reports section on the BNSI’s website to allow for the release and easy access to results in accordance with a detailed distribution plan.
- Tabulation of results - numerous tables will be developed using specific criteria.
